Lil Wayne @ BET Awards 2008

Last night was the 2008 Annual BET Awards and many of our own past performers graced the stage. The show was very well put together and the entertainers did great jobs. Winners include Kanye West for best collaboration for Good Life with T-Pain. Alicia Keys took home best female R&B artist and past performer Lil Wayne took home the Viewers Choice award for his song "Lollipop". Congratulations from your family here at Boost Mobile RockCorps and also for selling that "cool" million of the "Carter III" last week, its well deserved.

Volunteer wins trip to BMRC concert in Los Angeles!!!

Cornelius Hughley
17 Years Old
Atlanta GA

Cornelius gave his 4 hours at a BMRC APPROVED project with the City of East Point (GA) at Connaly Nature Park, submitted an essay and got 1 ticket to the BMRC concert in Los Angeles. BMRC also got his mom a ticket to the show and then flew them both across the country for the event. This was the Hughleys’ first trip to the city of angels; they had a blast and say that it was an experience of a lifetime.

-Cornelius’ winning essay identified crime as the biggest problem facing his community.

-Fun Fact: Cornelius volunteered at the Garden In Transit project and attended the concert at The Fox Theatre during BMRC ATL ’07

Common & Tracy Morgan at LA Concert 08'

One of Chicago's own and Hip-Hop legend Common was one of many artists to show up and perform at this years Boost Mobile RockCorps concert. Common definitely did his thing and had a little fun with host Tracy Morgan. So thanks from the family here at RockCorps and thank you to the volunteers who came out and gave their 4 hours for the concert ticket. Volunteering is important, so remember to tell a friend about us. We might be in your city again before you know it.

Good Luck!

As you all know tonight is the night of the BET Awards 2008. Now, although there are many folks being nominated, we want to give a big shout to one of the RockCorps Founders and Video Director, Chris Robinson. Chris is nominated tonight as the Video Director of the Year and for the Video of the Year with Honey by Erykah Badu. Big ups to Chris for his daily grind.

Peace,
Ro Boogs

Stay tuned for one hot summer

Experts are saying that Summer '08 has a shot at being the warmest on record, and the heatwaves that are sweeping the nation suggest that the weathermen might just be right for once. Is this yet more evidence of global warming - a situation that some estimate may cost 45 trillion dollars to fix? Read all about it here and here.

Advertise a cause: Do Something!

Do Something has teamed up with SocialVibe to make a real difference. They let you fundraise through advertising on your profile! It's like virtual volunteering. Here's what you do:

1. Pick an awesome not-for-profit to support (hint, hint)
2. Pick a corporate brand, which then sponsors Do Something
3. Start promoting the SocialVibe/DoSomething badge on your MySpace and Facebook profiles!

The Countdown is on!

This Friday, the Gibson Amphitheatre will be going crazy with performers and Boost Mobile RockCorps volunteers! Common, Puddle of Mudd, Three 6 Mafia, Flyleaf, Akon, and a bunch of other surpise guests that we can't talk about!! The joint is going to be bananas!!! You have Clinton Sparks spinning, Tracy Morgan hosting...As I write, I'm getting more amped about the show!! So I touched on surprises at the Boost Mobile RockCorps shows. Some of those include Nas in LA and Busta Rhymes in Atlanta. I wonder what surprises the folks at RockCorps have set up for this year. I'm out like Willie Randolph with the Mets (My bad Willie, it was too easy).

Peace

Join Do Something 101!

Be like Jordin Sparks and join the Do Something 101 campaign. It's a fact: 11 million teens in the U.S. live below the poverty line and won't be going back to school with the proper supplies. So start collecting new notebooks, pens, erasers, binders, and other stuff kids need; then, later this summer, drop the supplies off at a Staples store near you. Check out the clip below and let Jordin tell you about it herself!
